We take a closer look at a sneaker that is the result of a collaboration between adidas Originals and Tokyo-based Bedwin & The Heartbreakers. I also throw on an Obey tee, to give you guys some insight on the brand.

The adidas Originals NMD is undeniably one of the most popular sneaker models on the planet right now. In just over 14 months, it has garnered a cult following like what can only be compared to the Yeezy hype.

Check out the NMD City Sock, Bape NMD, NMD White Reflective, Duck Camo NMD.

Bedwin & The Heartbreakers slapped on their minimal and classic design elements on the NMD. They have a nice black upper with pin striping, with BEDWIN branding done pretty nicely on the in-sole, tongue and pull tab. The plugs are done in all white. These sneakers dropped around the same time, as the much hyped and anticipated BAPE NMD, almost going unnoticed. But I like interesting pieces and this slept on release, caught my attention. Now, I won’t bother going into details because the fit, comfort etc is pretty much standard in all NMD models. This one too, has an in-sole which for me is a blessing. The only other pair of NMD’s that I own with an in-sole is the BAPE NMD.

I teamed these kicks with X By O joggers from adidas Originals and a tee from Obey Clothing. Obey is a brand founded by street artist Shepard Fairey in 2001. The brand uses provocative statements and imagery that is borderline controversial. Do you guys remember (or rather, have heard of) John Carpenter’s movie They Live? The brand gets it’s name from that 1988 movie propaganda screens. And just like the Obey brand, the movie They Live is centred on how propaganda makes us function like robots without giving much thought to freedom. Here is the trailer for your reference.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick some ass. And I am all out of bubblegum.

The Obey Clothing brand usually has diametrically opposite view points, which makes their message conflicting at times. It is done on purpose to allow the consumers to derive whatever meaning they would from what they read.
