The OG Nike Air branding makes a comeback on the Air Jordan 6 Infrared after 19 long years. It was last seen in 2000.

The sports car inspired Air Jordan 6, first released in 1991. With the AJ6 Infrared on feet, Michael Jordan won his first ever NBA Championship which makes this sneaker iconic and sought after. And although the Air Jordan 6 Infrared has been retroed a few times, it has mostly been with the Jumpman logo on the heel. One time, even with Hyper Pink in place of Varsity Red hits.

Which is why the 2019 release (with the Nike Air branding on the heel) has sneakerheads and Jordan fans excited.

Last year, around the same time, the Air Jordan 3 Black Cements dropped and I managed to cop an early pair from one of the surprise drops on the Nike.com website. For me, these Infrared 6s compare to the BC 3s. Although the Concord 11s also dropped in December 2018, it wasn’t a pair I was chasing because of how they look on feet with the kind of fits I wear.

And to be honest, it was something I mirrored for the Infrared 6s.

Scheduled for release on the 16th of February 2019, during the All-Star weekend, I got access to a pair thanks to the kind folks at Nike / Jordan Brand. If you are looking to cop a pair in India, all leading Nike stores in India had stocked up. But make sure you call in to check if they still have a pair in your size because almost all of them sold out pretty easy.

The fit on the Air Jordan 6 is roomy, so regardless of having broad feet you can just go true to size with them. With an all nubuck upper, the materials on the Infrared 6 are quite well put together. Detailing like the neoprene-like panel over the laces with the Jumpman logo on it, the dual-branded lace locks, the Porsche inspired spoiler on the back and the race-car seat inspired tongue, are things of beauty. The tongue especially, lets you slip your fingers into the slots and pull on the sneaker easily.

Icy outsole details with those Infrared hits on the midsole, add to the aggressive stance of this classic.

Comfort levels on the Air Jordan 6 Infrared are high. I wore my pair for an entire day as I walked about and drove my car and did everyday stuff.

Kudos to Nike and Jordan Brand for selling out on the Infrared 6s. They made multiple pairs, killing the reseller potential on this drop. They also made sure, supply was enough for everyone who wanted a pair, to get a pair, yet sell out completely. I would like to see more of such drops, especially the fact that these released in physical stores in India. What more could we ask for?
