I tried on some of the key pieces from U.S. Polo Association‘s Autumn Winter 2016 collection.
You are doing Polo styles right when the logo is not as big as your head!
To be entirely honest I never owned a piece of US Polo clothing because I always associated the brand with being preppy. You know, prim and proper? And I am way too easy-going and minimal my style. But then, when I did finally walk into the store and checked out their Autumn Winter’16 collection, I was pleasantly surprised. They had quite a few pieces across categories that were my style. Well pieced together outfits and understated in styles. The category range is quite diverse and not restricted to what one would otherwise assume is only preppy styles.
I picked out a couple of pieces from their Monochrome, Aspen Valley and Old Glory collections.
Monochrome : I picked up the classic oxford shirt and a mandarin collared polo tee. Every man should own at least one oxford shirt in their wardrobe. They are extremely versatile and can go from work to a night out at the bar (with the sleeves rolled up) with ease. And more importantly, since they are made from durable cotton and are built strong, they last a lot longer. The minimal detailing on the mandarin collar polo tee was something that drew me to it, because I am pretty big on black and white. The stark contrast is something that wears well in winters.
Aspen Valley : The mandarin collared linen shirt from this collection was my favourite amongst all the pieces. I love linen shirts and unlike traditional thinking, also find a place in your winter wardrobe. Cities like Bombay, for instance, only experience a slight drop in temperatures. It is not cold enough to wear layers, anybody who tells you otherwise is in denial. To be honest, I tried wearing jackets and hoodies when in Bombay because I wanted some semblance of winter in my life at least for a week a year. But then, this full sleeved linen shirt will hold it’s own in nippy weather. Just don’t wear it to anyplace that is lower than 25 degrees (which is 70% of India) and you will be fine.
Old Glory : I got this denim shirt and a faux-leather jacket to complete my proper winter look. Paired with denims, they keep you nice and comfy through the day. The look by day is easy and all you need to do when temperatures drop is thrown on the jacket. And you are done.
