512 Slim Tapered by Levi’s – Jeans made for Sneakerheads

Levi’s introduced the 512 Slim Tapered Jeans to the Indian market, which perhaps is the best ever fit made for sneakerheads. Or people who like to show off their shoes, for that matter.

The one thing that people get wrong most often (even Hypebeast has not been spared in their comments section) is their choice of pants to wear with sneakers. Even I am a victim of poor choice quite often. My favorite jeans have always been the Levi’s 501. I styled the 501 CT and 501 Skinny with streetwear and sneakers here.

And although they lend themselves perfectly to high tops like the Jordan 1, I still felt the need for a slimmer taper for when I wore sneakers like the NMD or Converse. If you follow me on Instagram @bowtiesandbonesblog, you would notice how I often wear shorts or joggers when I do my sneaker posts. And this is not my first preference to be honest. It is primarily because I haven’t been able to get a pair of lowers that taper well.

Here’s a quick fit video of the 3 pairs I picked up from the Levi’s store, on my YouTube Channel.

Alright, so there are a bunch of skinny jeans in the market but nothing compares to the Levi’s 512 Slim Taper.

So, what is the Levi’s 512 Slim Taper?

Made with sneakerheads at the heart of the design aesthetic, the jeans are relaxed at the waist and hip and taper from the thigh to the ankle.

These jeans give you a tailored / customized fit that is clean and sits well on your waist through the thigh and taper down to your ankle. I have rather thick thighs so I sized up just so they sat well on my body. But you honestly could go true to size. Also these jeans stretch, lending to the overall aesthetic and adding comfort + breathability to the equation. I got 2 of the 3 pairs altered in length to adjust the fit since I also have short legs. And the store did a pretty bang up job on the customization as you will see in the images. I kept a fair bit of length at the end because I like my jeans cuffed. But you could crop them to end at your ankle for maximum effect.

How do you style the Levi’s 512 Slim Taper? And where can you wear them?

I chose 3 different types of Levi’s Jeans within the 512 range which I elaborate on through the 3 looks I put together.

Look 1: Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Orange Tab + Batwing Logo Tee + Jordan 1 Royal Blue (To chill with friends at a coffee shop)

I have a pretty long relationship with Levi’s Orange Tab jeans. My first ever pair of jeans, I have owned in my lifetime, was the Levi’s Orange Tab on a waist size of 28. I still own them, back home, unaltered. Which is why, when I saw the Orange Tab was back on shelves I had to pick them up as my first choice. Since they came with a double stitch at the seams, I did not alter their length at the time of the shoot. But is do-able at the store.

For the first look, I teamed the unaltered Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Jeans with the Jordan 1. The reason I did not alter the length is because I wanted to achieve a “stack” at the ankle, which lends a pretty good look to the overall fit. Plus, I was meeting with a client, so had to look kinda proper.

Look 2: Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Style Jeans + Batwing Logo Tee + Converse CDG Play Chuck Taylor + Trucker Jacket (To a morning brunch or to the bar)

The Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Style Jeans have about 40% stretch in them, making them the comfiest thing you will slip into (second only to your boxers). They have an insane amount of stretch and I went true to size with this variant.  I chose a deep indigo color for this fit.

I teamed the True To Size stretch Levi’s 512 Jeans with the CDG Play Converse Chuck Taylor High Tops.

I was at Koramangala Social, when I wore this outfit, for brunch with a couple of my buds. The Full English breakfast combined with their fancy new coffees that are syphon brewed. Yum! Which only goes to show that your Levi’s can easily go from an evening out meeting clients to brunch with friends, with ease!

PS: A word of caution – Indigo tends to bleed so wear them with darker sneakers or wash them to bleed the color first.

Look 3: Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Red Tab + Pocket Tee + White Mountaineering NMD (The work-place friendly look)

For the 3rd fit, I kept it simple overall and went with my favorite theme – normcore. A basic black pocket tee and grey Levi’s 512 Slim Taper Jeans with the White Mountaineering NMD R2 sneakers.

  1. I do enjoy the manner in which you have framed this particular concern and it does provide me personally some fodder for consideration. Nonetheless, from what I have personally seen, I only hope when the commentary pile on that folks keep on issue and in no way get started upon a soap box regarding the news du jour. Anyway, thank you for this fantastic piece and although I do not necessarily concur with it in totality, I respect the perspective.

  2. Hi there! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established
blog. Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick.
I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to start.

Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thank you
