We take a look at the Yeezy Boost 750 Black that went on sale on the 19th of December. Thousands of people world wide, clamoured for the limited drop in the high top version that came out last in February 2015. What could be more fitting than this post, to wind up 2015 after all!
August 2015. At the Adidas Originals store during the Tubular launch.
3rd person to me: “What do you make of the Yeezy boost?”
Me: “It isn’t my thing really. I don’t get what the hype is all about.”
December 4th 2015. While I was away with friends at a music festival.
Gokul: “Listen man, we got the Yeezy Boost 750 raffle happening on the 19th of December. Barely 30 pairs made it to India, do you wanna…”
Me: “Oh yes, yes, yes. I need to get my hands on those shoes.”
That is the thing Yeezy does and I still cannot figure out what it is. Barely a quarter ago, I didn’t care much for the Yeezy kicks. But then I guess watching all those Complex and Hypebeast videos, made the hype seep into my sub conscience or something like it. They say you are what you consume, perhaps that makes me a hype beast now. No, that isn’t a good thing.
Anyway, fortunately for me, a lot of people present at the raffle thought they’d cop these kicks for free. I mean, seriously, with just about 10k shoes dropping worldwide they’d think this was a charity? With just 14 pairs at the store in Bangalore and 4 of them in size 8 I waited with bated breathe as the lots got pulled. I was the 13th to get called out and surely enough I had them in my hands.
What I love about the kicks : These aren’t mainstream sneakers. They have a design that has opinions split on if they are desirable or downright ugly. I love that the silhouette is quite clean and there is nothing in the market that comes remotely close to the Yeezy’s. The branding is minimal and interesting. The right pair has the trefoil logo and adidas etched at the corners of the kicks, while the left pair has YZY on it. Then there is the YZY (as in Yeezy) discreetly placed on the velcro strap which also has the three stripes under it.
Then there is the boost technology which is exposed on the outer sole. You know, if you finger it, it feels like thermocol almost. And this technology on its own is making quite a few Adidas kicks fly off the shelf because it makes the shoes ultra light.
Also, only about 30 of them made it to Indian shores!
What I absolutely loath : The sizing. I mean, what can be worse than copping the most coveted kicks of the season and them not fitting you. See, the thing is what was pitched as an 8, was actually an 8.5 which means I don’t get the propah feel of these kicks. To top that, it runs a whole size larger.
Perhaps I should re-sell?
Anyway, am going to sit on these for a bit before I take a final call. Christmas came early alright, but Santa made me pay INR 23,000 for these bad boys. If you readers want to cop it from me, don’t make me an offer of less than INR 1.5 Lakhs please? Haha.
